Causes

Gum disease, which is also known as periodontal disease and periodontitis, is a progressive disease that, if left untreated, can lead to tooth loss. Gum disease begins with the inflammation and irritation of the gingival tissues that surround and support the teeth. The cause of this inflammation is the toxins found in plaque that cause a bacterial infection.

Symptoms

One of the most common signs of periodontitis that you can distinguish, is frequent bleeding during brushing of the teeth, or when eating.

There are also other symptoms that may be indicative of suffering from this periodontal disease:

zGum retraction: los dientes se ven cada vez más largos, llegando incluso a verse la raíz del diente.

- Dental mobility: the teeth grow more and more sensitive and with greater mobility, it seems that they are not permanent. This symptom is due to the fact that the disease begins to affect the bone and the teeth lose part of their support system.

- Space between the teeth: : the gum disappears between the teeth leaving “black holes” in between them.

- Fanning of the antero-upper teeth.

- Teeth sensitive to cold: by gingival retraction.

- Bad breath.

- Gums inflamed and with a bright red appearance.

- Increased sensitivity of the gums.

Protocol

Each person has a specific treatment and process. It is normal to follow the following periodontal protocol:

1.-Diagnostic visit and general examination. Presentation of treatment plan, possibilities, resolution of doubts and budget.

2.- Periodontal study with tooth diagram. In cases of advanced periodontal disease, the microbiologic analysis is performed.

3.- Decision making based on the gum situation: cleaning of tartar, scrapes or respective therapies, depending on the situation and the degree of evolution of the disease.

4.- Control and maintenance.

The gums have a healthy pink colour.

In the first phase of periodontal disease, the gums appear inflamed and bleed when brushing. Tartar deposits are usually seen.

If tartar is not removed, the disease continues and deepens. The gums are more irritated and bleed while brushing and other times at random. In this stage, there is no mobility of the teeth but bone has begun to be lost.

The gum is more inflamed and has begun to retract. The roots of the teeth begin to become visible and black holes appear between the teeth. There is a slight mobility of the teeth. Bone loss is clear and teeth lose lift.

The gum is very altered. Aesthetics and function are severely affected. The teeth move clearly because a lot of bone has been lost.
